I had to read portions of this book during a Community Development course I took in grad school. I found it really helpful in wrapping my head around the idea of social capital and civic engagement.
BETTER
TOGETHER:
Restoring the American Community by Robert D. Putnam and Lewis
M. Feldstein
with Don Cohen
(Simon & Schuster; September 10, 2003)
Haven't read Better Together, but Putnam's previous book, "Bowling Alone" is one of my favorites and totally changed the way I think about communities and my role in helping shape them. I often check out the Social Capital blog, which is kept up by many of his colleagues at Harvard's Saguaro Seminar.
Cool, I will definitely check that out as well. There is also a report called "Better Together" which is of the Saguaro Seminar, that touches on everything that went down there in 2000.
