Volunteer with MNS to Teach Music to Bay Area Kids!

MusicianCorps, a program of Music National Service, is offering volunteers an opportunity to work with high-need student populations in San Francisco and Oakland to promote music instruction, appreciation, and creative confidence. The following opportunities are available immediately, and require an application and background check process. Volunteers are encouraged to express interest even if their schedules conflict with the times listed below, as they may be able to be accommodated. Volunteers must make a commitment of at least four months.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

1 Volunteer needed at Think College Now Elementary's after-school program (2825 International Blvd. Oakland, CA 94601) Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 3pm-5:30pm.

1 Volunteer with percussion experience needed at MetWest High School (314 E 10th St. Oakland, CA 94606) on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:50am-10:50am.

1 Volunteer with digital audio recording experience needed at MetWest high School (314 E 10th St. Oakland, CA 94606) on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:50pm-1:50pm.

1 Volunteer with percussion experience needed at Sequoia Elementary School (3730 Lincoln Ave. Oakland, CA 94602) on Tuesdays from 12pm-3pm.

1 Volunteer interested in one-on-one instrumental lessons (i.e. vocalist, bass, horn, etc.) at Horace Mann Middle School (3351 23rd St. San Francisco, CA 94110) on Wednesdays from 1:30pm-3:30pm.

1 Volunteer needed at Horace Mann Middle School (3351 23rd St. San Francisco, CA 94110) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays from 11am-12pm.

1 Volunteer needed at June Jordan School for Equity (325 La Grande Ave. San Francisco, CA 94112) on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 12:30pm-1:30pm.

Skills

musical skills, working with youth: Experience playing a musical instrument (voice counts!), spreading enthusiasm for music and creative expression, and working with youth and music/arts instruction is desired.

Requirements

- At least four month commitment

- Application and background check for in-school service

- Musical skills

Alaia, what opportunities do you have for music students (many of them teens and preteens) to get involved and serve others through music? I've seen your music days - do you know when your next one will be? Do you offer other opportunities as well (during the summer for instance)? I'm thinking of opportunities for students who probably wouldn't qualify to have one of your volunteers come in and work with them, but might benefit from getting involved in the community through their music.
