I am a trained vocalist and sophomore at Christopher Newport University. I plan to get my BS in chemistry and work toward and MD and PhD. I want to research and music therapy as an effective means of treating adolescents who suffer from depression.
What does music mean to you?
Music has always had a positive presence in my life, and through music I have always found joy and healing. For the last 8 years, I have known that my voice was my instrument and have been singing as a part of school, church, and community organizations.
Why is the music-based service movement important to you?
Music is a means by which to communicate, process emotions, heal, worship, and inspire. Music has been of great value to my life, and, from personal research, I believe the Music National Service movement is doing valuable work and could have a great impact on my community.
