Profile Information

About me:
I'm the guy with the crazy ideas, bringing the Joy factor to where I can go. I am a strong proponent of the a cappella movement, having done it in college and with my own music arranging service, MusicaRanger (http://www.musicaranger.us), and a cappella blog, SmarterMusic (http://www.smartermusic.us). As a bassist, a composer, and that guy who sings a little too loudly in the shower, I give high-fives to whomever shares that connection called "music-lovah", which ends up being a lot of people. I also love bringing people together for concerts, shows, and flash mob events.
What does music mean to you?
Music has been the totem pole that I have inscribed my identity. It shaped me growing up, it gave me guidance in college, and it has given me the language to communicate with people of all ages and backgrounds.
Why is the music-based service movement important to you?
The music is part of the "enrichment trifecta" (art, athletics, and music) that is getting cut more and more often from our predominantly reading-and-math based schools. Society is forgetting that being able to read and write doesn't matter if there is no soul behind the writings or dreams behind the math. I believe the Music National Service is one of the few organizations that is fighting for art and culture, and we need more of that.
Musical Interests
Composition, Performance, Promotion, Theory, Listening Appreciation

Where I serve:

My service mission:
Why not smile today?

Humanitarian Notes- HIV/AIDS in Africa gets a new beat

The non-profit organization Humanitarian Notes (http://www.humanitariannotes.org) is making real change through popular music- fighting HIV/AIDS alongside local African musicians.

Humanitarian Notes travels to African countries and recruits local musicians to talk about HIV/AIDS awareness through their music, giving street cred to a very important message: HIV/AIDS kills, but can be prevented. By encouraging safer…
