I started playing music in the mid 1970's. I also marched in drum & bugle corps from 1978-83 and 2003-04. In my youth, I started on saxophone, but learned to play flute, clarinet, trumpet, baritone, french horn, and tuba with a basic level of expertise. Today, my primary instrument is baritone.
I did some instructor work in the 1980's and helped where I could in recent years. Over the past few years, I was a volunteer chorus instructor at a middle school and worked with a small college marching band in Georgia.
What does music mean to you?
Music is my first professional love and has influenced much of my life. The confidence I gained from my musical accomplishments spilled over into other professional endeavors proving I can be successful in professional life.
Why is the music-based service movement important to you?
Being of service is nothing new. I am an alumnus of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity. To be honest, I just heard of this organization, but am interested to learn what it is about and to see how I can help.
