About me:

What does music mean to you?
Music has been my constant companion and source of information and inspiration since before I was born. Music makes me better at things I do well, has provided me with a rewarding livelihood, and has taught me the most important skill of all: how to pay attention. Because I make music, I am a smarter, more compassionate, more sensitive, stronger person.
Why is the music-based service movement important to you?
Nearly every religion - every community of people who come together to engage in more meaningful relationship with themselves, each other, and their creator - has a practice of making sound. Why? Because sound generates energy. And energy generates power. And it's not just limited to religions - look at the New Zealand rugby team, or any American high school football stadium on a Friday night. Bringing communities together to make music puts them in direct contact with their power, and doing so can change the world.
Musical Interests
Composition, Performance, Promotion, Theory, Listening Appreciation
Musical Expertise
Woodwind, Vocal
Where I serve:
Happy to be joining the ranks of music lovers in Jersey City, NJ! But I will serve music wherever duty calls. :)

To help people everywhere discover their inner musician

Now I gotta go research Turkish modes!

Oh cool, where did you study?

I used Oliveros in a class on performance as an exercise to convince non-music students that they can be performers too. Waaaay too much fun.

What's up Meg! I love Oliveros' deep listening excercises. I first heard them from a music history professor and I used to open class with them when I TA'd. How were you introduced to them?
