After 25 years as a lawyer, I became a consultant in organization development and conflict management. In 2005, I founded the US branch of Musicians without Borders and I serve as the Business Director of the International organization in the Netherlands.
What does music mean to you?
While an amateur, I am a musician in my soul. I play guitar and banjo, recorder, pennywhistle and, long ago, the oboe. I sing and am the cantor at my temple for the Jewish High Holidays. More to the point, I am the US Director of Musicians without Borders, a global network of musicians using music in conflict and post conflict areas for healing and reconciliation. www.musicianswithoutborders.org.
Why is the music-based service movement important to you?
While the mission of Musicians without Borders focuses on conflict regions (ex-Yugoslavia, Palestine, Uganda), we share the belief in the power of music. As Hindemith said,"When people make music together they cannot be enemies. . ." We are looking to partner with NMS and other organizations to advance the movement and bring peacemaking through music into the heart of US culture.
