Profile Information

About me:
I am in between jobs and have been volunteering at Mary Health of the Sick nursing home. Just last week I told two friends that I had a dream of expanding the music offered there. I said, " We need a Peace Corps of musicians who would go into nursing homes." So, while browsing through available jobs on Insight tonight I found your link. WOW! Is there any possibility of part-time work or a funded grant.
I have and Ed.D., am a Marriage, Family Therapist and have extensive experience in Middle and High School teaching and school counseling. My minor is in music and that has always been my love. I was a music director in a Catholic parish for 25 years ( adult choir, bell choir, children's choir, etc.)
What does music mean to you?
music is my lifeline and a deep part of my spirituality
Why is the music-based service movement important to you?
Strong coincidence that last week I had the idea of a "Peace Corps" of musicians who would take music to nursing homes - or community gatherings for the elderly to bring joy and lift depression and reach those with dementia.
Musical Interests
Performance, Listening Appreciation
Musical Expertise
Piano, Vocal
Where I serve:
either Mary Health of the Sick skilled nursing facility in Newbury Park or possibly in the San Francisco area if I relocate. I truly resonated with the work of Megan Hughes. I also have already sung a couple of times at the bedsides of the dying. I have a strong background in Gregorian chant as well as classical music.
My service mission:
My vision is to have a grant or funding of some sort to bring music into nursing homes. I already have begun at Mary Health of the Sick in Newbury Park. I direct the Sisters who run the skilled nursing facility for the Sunday liturgies and play the piano and sing twice a week. My hope is to increase the number of participants, not just listeners. I now have three who sing along or attempt to use the dining tables for percussion. With some small percussion instruments, I just know we could bring more smiles into the dining halls.
