Today - Thursday, September 15 - is the National Call Day to save service in America. Federally funded service programs like AmeriCorps are making a critical difference in communities across the U.S. and are putting Americans to work. Yet, along with virtually all federally funded programs, national and community service is at risk of being defunded or significantly reduced in funding. It's time for the Service Artist community to mobilize to make sure that sure opportunities for Americans - especially artists and musicians - to serve are protected!

Here are five actions you can take TODAY to save service:
1. Call your Senators and Representative in Washington D.C. The campaign to Save Service in America has made it SO easy to contact them. Use their hotline at 1-855-US-SERVE to be connected directly with your state's representatives. Go to www.saveservice.org for talking points and facts about service in your state.

2. Tweet at your Reps! Many representatives are on twitter and read tweets from their constituents - let them know that you care about service. You can use Tweet Congress to find your Reps on twitter. Don't forget to use the #saveservice hashtag!

3.  Write your Reps a letter. Share your service testimonial the old-fashioned way: through snail mail. A handwritten letter is very personal and could leave a memorable impression on your Rep. Use Vote Smart to locate your Reps and get their mailing address.

4. Influence your friends. Use facebook to let your friends know why service is important to you, and ask them to contact their representatives. You can also donate your profile picture to the cause and 'like' Save Service's page.

5. Forward this story. Ask your friends and family to support something that is important to you. It only takes 5 minutes out of your day to make the call, but could be the most important 5 minutes of your day.
